Holiday Club2007 - WASTEWATCHERS"Wastewatchers - watch that waste" was the cry heard from St John's Church during this year's holiday club. Over 100 children and helpers gathered each morning to discover
We hoped to build relationships between the children, adults and children, our churches and the wider communities in and around Cupar and used Scripture Union's 2007 package, 'Wastewatchers' to look at themes based on transformation
We sang songs, listened to stories and solved puzzles / we did aerobics, told jokes and watched TV / we made butterflies, paperweights and lanterns / we hunted for smarties in cornflakes and scooped up jelly blindfolded / we dressed up, built monuments and greenhouses, got soaked with water guns... the list goes on.... We had a lot of fun - and so did the children! At the end of it all we knew that God made a wonderful world for us, that we should look after it and by taking Jesus up on his invitation to follow him, we would all have light in our lives and the ability to transform our worlds. Simple really!
2006 - PYRAMID ROCKFor the last four years St John’s and Cupar Old Parish Churches have jointly planned and run a summer holiday club for children in the area. ‘Pyramid Rock’ was this year’s Holiday Club and from the 7th – 11th August 2006, St John’s Church hall was transformed into the ancient land of Egypt. Each day a group of 140 children and helpers travelled up the Nile, listened to Red Hot News, opened their scrolls in their pyramid groups and encountered Joseph, who trusted God despite everything. It was a fantastic week packed with creative teaching, games, songs, prayers, craft and Bible reading, not to mention Humpy the Camel, the ‘Mummy’ and a live drama featuring Dr Potty and his niece, Denise. Cleo (aka Rev Sheila Blount) ensured the mornings ran smoothly and called on superhero Captain Ketchup Ken (aka Rev Ken Jeffrey) to help everyone ‘ketchup’ on the story so far. A very successful barbecue was held in the grounds of St John’s on Friday night for the children, helpers and their families. The weather was kind as around 200 people enjoyed some more fun and games and good food beautifully cooked by yet more willing volunteers. Sunday morning saw the culmination of the week’s activities when the congregations of St John’s and Cupar Old came together at St John’s for a lively Thanksgiving Family Service and afterwards shared refreshments in the hall. These were some of the comments from those attending each day: I liked it when we sor the play and I liked the art. It was good.
