Prayers for these days

Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Devasahayam, the Bishop of Madras has asked that congregations in Scotland should pray for the retrieval of the missionary founded Christian colleges back into the Church so that education - the only means of transforming individuals - can be made available to the youth of the church.

Bible Reading

Romans 8.28-39

"More than Conquerors" is the phrase used in some translations to head these verses. Reminding us that nothing at all can separate us from the love of God.

Julien Meetings

Every second Thursday in the month there is a monthly Julian Meeting at 8:00 pm at 13 Robertson Road, Cupar (St. James' Rectory).  Julian Meetings are ecumenical groups that meet for silent contemplative prayer.  There are many ways to pray, and all of them are important.  Very often we pray for things:  peace or healing or forgiveness. We need to pray for all of these. But contemplative prayer is an opportunity, as Hilary Wakeman wrote on the tenth anniversary of the Julian meetings in 1984 "of showing that the best prayer of all is that which revels in God's very existence, delighting that God is, wanting whatever God wants, saying ‘Yes'."  Making ourselves available for God means making space, the kind of space our busy lives so often deny us.  A Julian Meeting is an opportunity to find that kind of space.  The meetings begin with a short reading, either from the Bible or a spiritual writer (like Julian of Norwich or St. John of the Cross or Martin Luther or John Wesley) followed by thirty minutes of silence.  The reading is then repeated as an indication that it is time to return from the silence.  Different members of the group are invited to lead into the silence at each meeting.  Anyone who feels that this kind of prayer might helpful in their spiritual journey would be very welcome to join us.
